FFV?s Recon Helps Provide Portability and Durability for Feature Film Sets The Recon is an ultra-compact board-level digital video recorder (June 19, 2006)

Fast Forward Video, known for extraordinary recorders and a recognized innovator of digital video recorder (DVR) technology for broadcast, industrial video, presentation, and military applications, today announced its board-level Recon DVR? has been chosen for Rugerent OHG?s new Easylook VideoAssist, a laptop video recorder designed for the film industry.

Measuring only 8.3 inches by 11.8 inches, Rugerent?s Easylook VideoAssist is designed as a professional replacement for video-combos and clamshells on feature film location work. Utilizing FFV?s Recon, the Easylook displays video at resolutions of 720 ? 480 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9, and an audio sampling rate of 48 kHz. It is completely alloy, which allows it to hold up against rain and dust during outdoor filming, and is handheld, complete with an integrated seven-inch TFT monitor.

?What distinguishes the Easylook is its portability and durability,? said Gert Kappes, inventor of the Easylook. ?As a solution for feature film location work, the Easylook had to be capable of filming in harsh outdoor conditions. Choosing FFV?s Recon for my design was the most logical solution because of its ability to handle rugged conditions, its compact size, and high-quality video output.?

The Recon is an ultra-compact board-level digital video recorder. At only 2.8 inches by 3.9 inches in size, the Recon can be integrated into laptop hard drives and can record up to eight hours of video. The Recon has a choice of either pre-assigned GPI inputs or an extensive menu of control and configuration options. The Recon features time-lapse recording, loop recording, and recorded video that can be played back locally or transferred to a PC as QuickTime? files for easy viewing and editing. The recorder provides 720 x 486 image pixel resolution and uses scalable motion JPEG compression.

Motion JPEG technology delivers exceptional picture quality for applications such as slow motion, quick cut editing, and spontaneous or interactive presentation requests. Unlike MPEG compression, which uses the difference between frames as a compression technique and thus does not keep every whole frame, Motion JPEG is the application of the original JPEG still file compression technique to every frame of a video or film sequence. Using a pixel block match system that minimizes image degradation, video that is compressed in recorders using Motion JPEG retains and gives users access to each and every frame. The result is superb performance for every application with crisp images and random access to video material.

The Recon is optimized for high-quality video recording and playback, and is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of freelance producers, outside broadcasters, video-assist operators, surveillance and security organizations, video analysts, emergency ?first-response? teams, law enforcement, government, and military agencies.
