The dynamic, live and clear sound provided by Grado is highlighted by their new SR 225i Prestige Series Headphones. Grado has kept most of the design details intact, but they have considerably changed the driver quality and structure of this new model. This particular product is the second best made by Grado.
After testing several types of headphones, I made my final decision. Purchasing Grado SR225i does not please my wife because they do not feature the noise cancelling technology. However, even if this model has open backed cans I appreciate the way it sounds. I do not feel like what I listen gets stuck in my head anymore and, on top of that, Grado has increased the airflow by 50 percent. More specifically, there is a full metal mesh screen incorporated on the back side of the cans. The sound stage is increased thanks to this change. Every musical note is emphasized by a well-thought balance. The sound is pure, clear and faithful to the original.
The design of Grado SR225i is not impressive, but it is not old-fashioned either. The audio cable shaped like a Y might not be everyone’s favorite. I am not at all bothered by this characteristic. What bothers me is the 1/4” plug. There is no adapter for 1/8” plug included. For their prince range, I could say that paying for an adaptor is not a big deal, but is somewhat inconvenient.
The foam ear pads are comfortable and feel nice on my ears. I expect them to last for a long time because the material seems thick.

Here are some of the pros and cons of the Grado SR225i Prestige Series Headphones
Long-lasting comfort – The headband is easy to adjust and it fits on every head shape. The cushioned ear cups are soft and comfortable. You can wear them for as long as you please without any inconveniences.
3D sound – The effect of the 3-dimensional sound was obtained by the insertion of the vented diaphragm. The bass response is accurate and extended, but not overpowering.
Clear and clean reproduction – The oxygen free copper contribute to a smooth sound without colorations.
Open-back design – The sound is not oriented straight into your ear. The open-back design is ideal for obtaining soundstage effects.
Adapter sold separately – The 1/8 “ adapter is not supplied by the manufacturer. It must be purchased separately in exchange of a fee. Otherwise, this pair of headphones can not be used with the most common devices.
No accessories included – Numerous renowned manufacturers offer accessories in the package of their headphones. Grado does not include anything. The only addition in the package is the warranty certificate.
Grado has managed to bring its products up to date. Grado SR225i meets now the most demanding requests in terms of sound quality. As for the design, many of the audiophiles are not too concerned about it. Personally, I enjoy having a high-quality product at my disposal. These headphones are sturdy, comfortable and suitable to use for listening to music, watching movies and playing videogames. You might disturb the people around you when you have them on, but your hearing experience deserves this risk.
